How the APR is calculated
- Cash you actually receive = amount funded minus any fees taken out of it.
- Payment schedule. We lay out every payment on its real schedule: one per business day (or per week), until the full payback is collected. The last payment can be partial.
- Internal rate of return. We solve for the periodic rate r that makes the cash you receive equal to the present value of every payment:
received = Σ paymentk ÷ (1 + r)k. This is the same actuarial idea used for APR disclosures. - Estimated APR = r × payments per year (for example 260 for five business days a week, 52 for weekly). The effective annual rate = (1 + r)payments per year − 1, which shows the effect of compounding.
- Holdback offers are estimated as holdback % × monthly card sales, spread across business days in a month. If your sales change, your real cost and payoff time change too.
The math is checked against two independent methods (a manual bisection solver and a standard root finder) on six test cases, including $50,000 at a 1.35 factor repaid daily over 180 business days (estimated APR 91.1%). Numbers are estimates, not a disclosure from any funder. A cash advance is often structured as a purchase of future sales rather than a loan, and its contract terms matter.
